Dorset v Somerset

Sunday 26th June saw Dorset girls take on Somerset girls in the Amy Rose County double rink competition – and didn’t they do well!

For 5 out of the 8 of our players it was their first experience of playing for their county but none of them were phased by the experience.

To begin with both rinks were holding their own and at 5 ends the score was very close on each rink. A late change on Rebecca Cresswell’s rink saw Hannah Edwards moving to lead with Sylvia Lazer slotting in a two, whilst Maria Martin stepped up to play three. For a good while this rink was leading and, despite losing a 6 mid way through the game, they never let their heads drop and fought back to just get pipped by 4 shots at the end of the game.

Meanwhile, on the other rink young Lucie Rankine-McIntosh led the way for this rink (youngest player to play for Dorset at 10 years of age) with Aimee Rickman following her at two. Emma Langridge and Millie Tuck played three and skip respectively. Again, this game was close for a long time, then towards the end the Somerset skip played a few really good bowls which saw them pick up a couple of big scores and sealed the match for Somerset.

The girls should be really proud of how well they played against a very experienced Somerset team, who won this national competition last year. It is only Dorset’s second year in this competition and the girls have shown that in years to come they WILL be a force to be reckoned with.

WELL DONE EVERYONE.

A big thank you to all county officials, parents, family and spectators for your support, it meant a great deal to the youngsters.

Penny Cresswell
