The Dorset Youth Bowls Academy organised their 2nd Bowls Tournament for Dorset youngsters and had a great turnout. In the u12’s competition there were 14 entries and the u18’s did even better 19 entrants. The competition is initially a singles with the youngsters in groups of 3 playing a round robin format. The winner of each group continue into the singles knockout competition with the remaining 2 forming a pair to play in the pairs knockout competition.

It was great to see young bowlers from West Moors, Shaftesbury, Ferndown, Poole Park and Blandford proudly wearing their club shirts. If the energy and enthusiasm they displayed could be bottled and sold someone could make a fortune.

The final of the u12 singles was an all female affair with Lucie Rankine-McIntosh (Bl) defeating Aimee Rickman (WM). The u12’s pairs final was an entertaining game with West Moors providing all participants. Bleu Wilson with Ollie Hughes proving too strong for Charlie Crossin and Max Monk.
Many of the u18’s matches proved to be close and the standard of play was excellent with Middleton Cup and Johns Trophy players showing off their skills. In the singles final Millie Tuck defeated her club mate Dylan Churchill. The pairs final had representatives from 4 clubs. Matthew Yarnold (Bl) was partnered with Leo Bramley (Fe) against Cai Steadman (PP) and Nick Turner (WM). Matthew and Leo jelled well and proved too strong for Cai and Nick.

The trophies were presented to the winners by the Ladies County President Bev Plympton. A big thank you to the umpires and volunteers who marked the matches and helped to make the day a success.
